3D Divine Feminine 5 Celtic Cross and Ley Lines colourful abstract painting. My painting style doesn't really fit into any category, I think I'm in my own lane.
5 years of dedicated mahi went into this deeply layered artwork. Started off as part of my wallpaper series and evolved.
The artwork has a reflective high gloss finish. So, it's really difficult to pick up the effects with the camera, but the painting interacts with light. At different times of the day, the gold pattern comes forward and colours are more muted. Other times the colours vividly vibrate.
In an unsual and eye catching contemporary or modern colourway of gold, pink and purple on a marbled blue purple, and gold metallic flecked background.
The artwork is a tribute to my ancient whakapapa / Celtic heritage - pre colonisation / pre-christianity.
The Celtic cross and interacting lines are representative of the beautiful ancient Celtic pagan culture almost stamped out - but not lost. The colours in the painting describe Mother Earth / Papatūānuku / Danu and her magical energy, seasons, and rhythm.
The divine feminine is a concept that represents sacred, life-giving energy that transcends gender and embodies creation, nurturing, intuition, wisdom, collaboration, receptivity and compassion in us all.
5 is a lucky number.
The 5 Celtic crosses are painted in feminine contemporary form and interweave the story of all of life. Traditionally the Celtic cross represents four elements – earth, air, fire, and water – along with the fifth element (often left out) the quintessence – which is the ethereal alchemy.
Instead of the circle on the cross I’ve used diamond shapes which graduate down in layers to represent past generations / whakapapa. You can we can see deeply into the layers in the middle of each cross - to pin point the past. Symbolic of many generations, that not all knowledge is lost, and we have the ability revive ancient practices for the health of our planet.
The many lines represent ley lines. Ley lines are like a secret geometry and thought to be to be paths or lines of energy that run on a connected energy highway, once accessible to our ancient ancestors.
Archaeologists and scientists consider ley lines to be pseudoscience / nonsense and pseudoarchaeology / poppy cock.
Ley lines are like latitudinal and longitudinal lines of energy that criss cross across the earth and intersect at historic structures and prehistoric sites such as Ayers Rock, Rosslyn Chapel, Rapa Nui / Easter Island, Stonehenge, Machu Picchu, Kā Roimiro / Arthur's Pass National Park or the Pyramids of Giza.
Beltane is a Gaelic festival marking the beginning of summer and comes from the ancient Celtic traditions of Ireland and Scotland. The festival is associated with fire, fertility, and the return of light. Ley lines align to the Beltane sunrise, to follow the path of the rising sun. Winter solstice fires are lit at Beltane as part of welcoming the suns energy. I enjoyed many Beltane fire festivals on Calton Hill in Edinburgh Scotland. Wee heathen that I am.
Leyhunters and Dowsers feel that all Leys are lines of energy - not like a traditional electromagnetic scale. But it has been suggested that this ‘earth energy’ is geological – supported by the finding that most larger earth energy lines, including Leys, are underpinned by deep geological faultlines. Some suggest that ley lines relate to geological features like fault lines, underground waterways, and magnetic irregularities. These features create subtle but detectable energy fields, which seem to follow specific patterns.
Some Māori believe energy centres of sacred sites such as the Kura Tawhiti limestone landforms, or Castle Hill in Kā Roimiro / Arthur's Pass National Park are thought to sit on a powerful ley line.
For me ley lines represent resonance of places. When living in Scotland, many times, I experienced an unusual sense of something akin to Déjà vue, as though I'd been there before. I discovered many years later my ancestors had been in those exact spots, many died in battles fighting against the English invaders – but I did not know that at the time. How does one explain that energy, or that sensation? The best explanation for me is Wairua.
