Kōtare Sacred Kingfisher

Regular price$650.00 Sale price Rating: 5.0 out of 5.0 5 / 5I love the call of the Kingfisher and feel utterly blessed when I see them in Plimmerton. The New Zealand native Kōtare / Kingfisher is a distinctive bird with stunning plumage and feathers that glint iridescent green blue.
Kingfishers are symbolic of freedom, courage, adventure, balance and free spirit.
The painting is of a metallic gold Kingfisher on a branch looking to the sun. The meadow and flowers are rising up towards the warmth. It's tricky to pick up but there are intricate Celtic motif patterns on the Kōtare. The sun's rays glint depending on which way the light hits the layers in the painting.
The artwork is in deep green, lime, yellows with metallic copper and golds. It doesn't show in the photos but depending on which was the light falls on the layers in the painting there are metallic patterns and beautiful shimmers of iridescent turquoise.
Light at different times of the day pick up different effects which kind of float in layers and creates a sense of movement.
This painting is very layered, but my sincere apologies - the effects are almost impossible to pick up with a camera, so the photos are at different angles to try to capture some of the effects.
The paintings are much better in real life as the human eye can see all the layers and differentiate light sources.

Full disclosure: The artworks, like the artist, are not perfect. I have a Siberian Husky dog called Sasquatch and some loose strands of fur may be forever immortalized in your painting, although I can’t guarantee that either!
