This 'stay groovy' painting is called 'Look deep into my disco ball... the future is here'. It's my kinda pisstake of a crystal ball. Disco balls are exceptionally accurate at predicting parties, dancing and fun. No excuses! Good times will prevail!
This unusual painting is part of the 1960's wallpaper series I started about 3 years ago. I've been rummaging around in (generous) friends homes who have vintage 1960's and 1970's wallpaper in their cupboards etc, for the super cool wall paper patterns. Not necessarily the colours of 60's and 70's wallpaper though - bejesus!
I'm stoked with this psychedelic painting. It has a contemporary modern colourway in pink, purple, mango, fluoro orange and yellow, and metallic golds that glint depending on which way the light catches the painting. The 1960's wallpaper pattern is in the background.
In the middle there is an off-centre holographic mirror ball, which glints gold, silver and rose gold, picking up and reflecting any light projected on to it. It's super trippy, as it reflects and changes colour as you move around it, demonstrated in the last 5 photos, and 2 clips or reels.
The artwork is deep layered, so it messes with perspective a wee bit. Best way to look at is - is while dancing.
Just for reference; A disco ball or mirrorball is a large decorative ball covered with small mirrored facets, suspended from the ceiling of a disco or club and rotated to reflect flashing lights. Disco balls are also called mirror balls because they are made up of hundreds of tiny mirrors that create beautiful rays and patterns of light. Often found back in the day at a discotheque.
To me disco balls represent fun, dancing, socialising, awesome banter and good times - shared with like minded folk.
Fun is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as "Light-hearted pleasure, enjoyment, or amusement; boisterous joviality or merrymaking; entertainment".
In my world, dancing is the epitome of fun, and the mirror ball is symbolic of that.
This painting won't appeal to the masses. It'll appeal to those who want to look at an artwork that makes them feel happy, and provide inspiration to break out yer fancy footwork. Afterall, every floor is specifically made for dancing on.
All hail the mighty disco baw. (Baw is Scottish slang for ball.)
I love this tune 'Make Luv, by Room 5, Oliver Cheatham' and it's an apt aural partner for Disco Ball. Listen here on Spotify, or here on YouTube.

The artworks are finished in a UV resistant resin which gives it that glass like finish. However, for longevity it’s best not to place this painting, or any artwork, or even humans or animals in direct UV / sunlight.
All multimedia work is created using top quality materials and arrives ready to be hung, with hanging hardware already attached to the back. But should you wish to professionally frame – you can do that too.
If you're considering a painting, but not 100% sure, please feel free to email me a photo of the room or space you'd like to hang the painting in. I'll email through a mock-up of what it could look like in your living room, dining room, office, kitchen or wall.
Full disclosure: The artworks, like the artist, are not perfect. I have a Siberian Husky dog called Sasquatch and some loose strands of fur may be forever immortalized in your painting, although I can’t guarantee that either!
That said, I want you to be 100% happy with your painting and I understand that buying art online can be challenging. So, I offer a 7-day return policy. If you receive the painting and decide it’s not for you, or it doesn’t suit the room you bought it for, please feel free to return it to me in its original condition - within 7 days of receiving it and I will be happy to refund, less any postage costs.
