Random spoon meaning and history.
The spoon theory “spoonie” necklace is meant to symbolize strength, but it is also meant to serve as a reminder that it is OK to say “no” because you just don't have always have enough spoons, or metaphorical strength. Although, it is perfectly reasonable to assume there are plenty of spoons around you, but we don’t have the strength to deal with those spoons either, metaphorically.
In 19th-century British slang, "spoon" meant "simpleton" (a meaning that may have been influenced by the "shallowness" of some spoons). That use of "spoon" brought about the adjective "spoony" to describe a silly or foolish person.
As legend goes, servants would steal a flatware piece from their master's home and shape it into a ring to give their beloved as a marriage proposal. So, the earliest spoon rings served as symbols of love and commitment, in defiance of strict social and economic barriers. There’s some startling similarities there with the mini spoon necklace. Defo get one.
Since ancient times, there are tales of royalty using silver spoons as a way of detecting poison. However, it’s important to note that the secondary meaning of Pharmakeia is a magic potion or charm, used to achieve a highly desirable outcome to healing.
Sniff or snuff spoons, or small decorative spoons have been used for nasal ingestion (insufflating) of powders throughout history. For example, they've been found in a collective burial chamber in Nino Korin, Bolivia. The grave sites were carbon dated to AD 335, 375 and 1120 and the spoons show traces of being used for powder inhalation.
Additionally, tiny spoons are found scattered, but sticking into and out of the grass grounds after festivals such as Twisted Frequency, Splore, Luminate, Taniwha's Den, and waaaay back in the day Entrain or The Gathering. After the doof doof / fun events, the miniature spoons are carefully gathered, cleaned, and left in the forest for the patupaiarehe and fairies.
Silly spoon jokes (you might need them.)
- Why did the spoon go to the dentist? It had a concavity.
- What did the chef say after he lost his favourite spoon? I'm sad, but only a ladle.
- Why did the spoon agree with the knife? Because the knife had a point.
- Why did the spoon come to the party dressed as a knife? The invitation said to look sharp.
- What is the most important rule in chemistry? Never lick the spoon. (Depending on the chemist or pharmacist of course.)
